The American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova, in partnership with PWC Moldova, is organizing the first edition of the ESG Conference in Moldova. The event is supported by EBRD Moldova and UNDP Moldova.

With this, AmCham Moldova and PWC Moldova continue their joint commitment to raise awareness and consolidate the dialogue among the stakeholders, such as local and foreign investors, entrepreneurs, and policymakers, regarding the importance of reporting on the three fundamental pillars - Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), in the context of a global trend to develop sustainability strategies and integrate sustainable principles and practices in the corporate culture of every business that strives for growth. The Conference aims at: 1. Building awareness within the public sector and the Moldovan business community on the ESG framework’s key elements; 2. Initiating the B2G interaction platform on the ESG concept, discussing the view of the public authorities and businesses on ESG elements and the perspectives of their implementation in Moldova; 3. Initiating a debate about the practical application of the ESG dimensions to Moldovan firms; 4. Discovering new ways of driving profitability through making sustainable investment decisions and finding new innovative approaches to sustainability. 5. Understanding how SDG-aligned approaches and impact management can be integrated into business strategies, management systems and governance. Albena Markova has over 24 years of professional services experience with PwC and for the past 10 years has been leading the PwC consulting practice across South East Europe, covering 8 countries. She has led several projects for private and public sector clients in various industries and a focus area of experience have been the company-wide business and organizational transformation programs. Her areas of expertise include strategy and policy development, gap analysis and diagnostic assessment, performance management, programme implementation and change management, organisational and process redesign, stakeholders’ engagement and communication. Ms. Rojas brings over 20 years of experience in sustainability and international development, advising private sector organizations, impact investors, development banks, and foundations on how to professionalize their impact management and measurement practices. As UN SDG Impact, IMM lead, Belissa works on advancing the adoption of the SDG Impact Standards including strategic engagement, training delivery and advisory. The Standards enable investments and enterprises to set managements systems, policies and practices aiming at contributing positively to sustainable development. Her projects include working with IDB Lab on the design of an ESG & impact measurement and management (IMM) tool for early-stage ventures with the potential to generate impact on a large scale, assessing ES Risk reporting best practices for DFIs, co-leading an initiative to support venture capital funds in the development of their IMM practices with IMP Impact Frontiers initiative, among others. She is also leading an initiative with On Think Tanks (OTT) and International Development Research Centre (IDRC) to bring cross-sector knowledge, policy, and economic expertise from local think tanks to the impact investing industry in Latin America and Africa.

Sahba Sobhani is the Director of UNDP IICPSD. Mr. Sobhani brings 19 years of experience in the private sector in Silicon Valley, Singapore and at UNDP as Programme Advisor, Team Leader and Programme Manager including as the technical lead for the recently endorsed UNDP private sector strategy. He has significant partnership development and advocacy experience with the private sector working with over 100 companies and business organizations and a track record of operational leadership, innovation and management of 6 global UNDP-led strategic multi-stakeholder partnerships and initiatives in the area of business and development including the Business Call to Action Initiative, the Connecting Business Initiative and the G20 Global Platform on Inclusive Business and has been the principal author and content manager of all 5 major UNDP-led reports in the area of private sector in development, Previously, he managed two key UNDP private sector initiatives in the executive office of the former Administrator of UNDP, Mark Malloch Brown, including the Commission on the Private Sector and Development, and the African Financial Markets Initiative. He co-authored Unleashing Entrepreneurship: Making Business Work for the Poor, the seminal report of the Private Sector Commission produced at the request of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Mr. Sobhani was the managing editor of the African Stock Markets Handbook. He is a graduate of Yale University and the Fletcher School of Diplomacy (USA).

Oxana BÎNZARU

Regional Director, Finance in Motion

Oxana Bînzaru is the Regional Director for the European Eastern Neighbourhood Region and Romania at Finance in Motion, a leading impact asset manager with nearly EUR 3 billion in assets under management across 9 impact investment funds, including the European Fund for Southeast Europe (EFSE) and the Green for Growth Fund (GGF). Oxana manages the debt investments in financial institutions with focus on micro, small and medium enterprise finance, housing finance as well as green topics such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate change mitigation. In addition, she is engaged in providing tailored technical assistance for partner institutions and sector stakeholders to foster institutional development, achieve impact, promote responsible finance and contribute to the development of the entrepreneurship ecosystem. Prior to joining Finance in Motion, Oxana worked for the National Bank of Moldova in the Banking Regulation and Supervision Department. egulation and Supervision Department.

Dieter PSCHEIDL

Head of European Affairs and ESG Vienna Insurance Group AG Wiener Versicherung Gruppe

Pscheidl started his 25-year professional career in the insurance sector in various positions with Austrian, GermanBand Italian insurance groups. From 2004 to 2015 he has been the representative to the European Union of the Austrian Insurance Association (VVO), dealing with key files of European insurance regulation such as Solvency II, the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) and Packaged Retail and Insurance￾Based Investment Products (PRIIPs). In 2016 he was appointed Head of European Affairs of Vienna Insurance Group (VIG) and is based in Vienna and Brussels. Founded almost 200 years ago, VIG is the leading insurance group in Austria, Central and Eastern Europe, serving more than 22 million corporate and retail customers in 30 countries. VIG’s European Affairs department has a twofold mandate: in the external relationship representing VIG’s interests vis-à-vis the European Institutions and in the internal relationship supporting all business areas facing EU issues. In 2021 his responsibilities were extended to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) group issues.   

Vitalie CORNICIUC

Vicepresident - CFO, Victoriabank

Vitalie CORNICIUC is Vice-president, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of BC Victoriabank SA. After 10 years with KPMG in Moldova, Vitalie joined in July 2018 the management team of Victoriabank after Banca Transilvania from Romania and EBRD became major shareholders of the Bank. During his career, Vitalie gained extensive experience in finance, accounting, and auditing. He was involved in various audit and advisory projects, including diagnostic studies and due diligence projects, risk management, and IFRS transition projects, many of them being in the financial services area. As CFO, Vitalie is responsible for the coordination of financial and accounting teams, being involved in budgeting, internal and external reporting, various transformation processes, communication with the Board of Directors, authorities, etc. Vitalie is a certified auditor by the Ministry of Finance of Moldova, by the National Bank of Moldova, and by the National Commission for Financial Markets. Since 2012, he is also a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) from the UK. Besides the above mentioned, Vitalie was also an IFRS trainer, speaker at various events organized by the Ministry of Finance of Moldova, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM), World Bank, the Association of Professional Accountants and Auditors of the Republic of Moldova (ACAP), on audit and accounting topics. He taught the Financial Analysis and Audit modules at Tri Executive MBA organized in Chisinau by Toulouse Business School. He speaks fluent Romanian, Russian, English and French.

Petr DOVOLIL

ESG Manager, Senior Consultant, PwC Czechia

Petr Dovolil graduated from the Faculty of Law of Charles University in 1999. He is a legal, institutional and regulatory expert with more than 23 years of professional experience, mainly in the field of environmental strategy and planning, sustainability, climate change, infrastructure development and urban resilience. Before joining PwC in 2021, he had worked 16 years for an engineering and development consultancy Mott MacDonald. In the last 8 years, he has participated in many EBRD green transition infrastructure projects abroad across infrastructure sectors (mainly water, transport, energy and waste), including three EBRD Green Cities Action Plan projects in Pristina (Kosovo), Minsk (Belarus) and Belgrade (Serbia). Currently, he focuses mainly on the broader topics of sustainable development, green and digital transformation and achieving compliance with ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) standards, including the EU Taxonomy and sustainability finance in the EU.

Marcela LEFTER is an energy professional, experienced in energy sector for about 22 years, including power distribution and renewable energy. Marcela Lefter is the CEO and founder of Sedera Green. Sedera Green is providing high-level assistance to international and local companies, interested to invest, develop or extend their energy businesses. The business areas are: development of the utility scale renewable energy projects, EPC for commercial use PV plants, distribution of the renewable energy equipment. Marcela Lefter is an already recognized voice of promoting the green transition, decarbonization & massive deployment of renewables. Within AmCham Moldova, Marcela leads the Green Transition Committee and is a BoD member.

Vitali Butnaru – Senior Finance Officer at Trans-Oil Group - a leading agribusiness in the Central and Eastern Europe, employing 2’800 people across the region. Vitalie coordinates a broad range of Trans-Oil operations and is the ESG ambassador of the Group. During his career, Vitalie coordinated several M&A transactions, debut Eurobond issuance by a corporate from Republic of Moldova and contributed to development of the sustainable finance. Vitalie is a speaker and Trans-Oil’s ambassador at different events, organized by Citi, JP Morgan Chase and Bank of America.
